Dominic Messier's Blog
Having found myself questioning how the show would pick-up the pieces, with the conclusion of Season Seven, I've been keeping track of which new characters would be introduced in the upcoming fall season. The data I have found is somewhat troubling, and leads me to wonder whether it was a good idea for the network to pursue an eight installment, with so many leads having moved on to other projects. The New Villain of Smallville According to the "Rumorville" section of Kryptonsite, one of the main villains to grace the television screen, will be Doomsday. For those who didn't voraciously read the major Superman comic book arc of the early 1990's, Doomsday was an extremely strong being who was created by Kryptonians in the early days of their planet, and was designed to grow immune to any new threat or attack. More importantly, he is known as the one being who effectively killed Superman, which of course caused massive sales for DC Comics. (Note: We should cover the rebirth of Supes in another posting...) I'm very curious as to how the writers of Smallville will work this into the plot from the get-go, as it would no doubt cost an arm and a leg to animate this large creature. Also, I find it puzzling that they would cast a normal sized actor in the form of Sam Witwer, who previously played the Viper jock Crashdown on the new Battlestar Galactica. Given the modest weekly budget the show has, they will no doubt find a way to humanize this threat, and lessen the need to expand on the original comic villain. More on this as the upcoming season starts on September 18th. Stay tuned... |
