New Series Dollhouse Premieres February on FoxFans Await Joss Whedon’s Newest Television ShowEarly 2009 will see the release of the latest addition to the Whedon-verse, the sci-fi thriller, Dollhouse.
Joss Whedon, the talented writer, director and creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, has created a new fantasy world to share with his devoted fans in the new show, Dollhouse. Eliza Dushku, who played Faith in both Buffy and Angel, plays the main character on the new series, which will begin airing on Fox in February 2009. The show has been given a 13-episode commitment from Fox and will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television, Whedon's Mutant Enemy Inc. and Dushku's Boston Diva Productions. Dollhouse Plot The story revolves around a group called “Actives” or “Dolls” who carry out various missions ranging from assassination to good deeds using implanted memories and skills, after which they return to the Dollhouse, a futuristic laboratory where they are confined between missions and their memories are wiped in preparation for their next assignments. Echo, played by Eliza Dushku, is an Active who begins to become self aware while in her mind wiped state. Dollhouse Cast and Characters Echo’s fellow Actives include Sierra (Dichen Lachman), who is instinctively drawn to be friends with Echo, and Victor (Enver Gjokaj), who remains in a child-like state when inactive. Boyd Langdon (Harry Lennix) is Echo’s Handler who keeps a constant eye on her while she is in the field. The genius programmer responsible for wiping the Actives’ memories is Topher Brink (Fran Kranz). One of the Dollhouse leaders is Adelle DeWitt (Olivia Williams), who is responsible for giving the Actives their assignments. Paul Ballard (Tahmoh Penikett) is an FBI agent trying to infiltrate the top secret and highly illegal Dollhouse organization. Whedon-verse Members Working On Dollhouse In addition to Eliza Dushku and Joss Whedon, a number of other cast and crew members that have worked on past Whedon projects will be part of the Dollhouse team. Amy Acker, who played Fred in Angel, will have a recurring role. Tim Minear, a frequent collaborator of Joss’, will write and direct episodes of Dollhouse in addition to consulting producer duties. Buffy and Angel producer Steven DeKnight will serve as consulting producer. Buffy director David Solomon is set to direct. Casting directors Anya Colloff and Amy McIntyre Britt, who have worked with Joss on Buffy, Angel and Firefly, have put together the cast of Dollhouse. Remote Free TVDollhouse and fellow Fox show, Fringe, will be among the first shows on the network to air under the new campaign called “Remote Free TV,” which will feature reduced commercial time and extended show minutes. Approximately 6 minutes of screen time will be added to the shows.
