It’s anyone’s guess how season four of Sci Fi channel’s Battlestar Galactica (produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick) will play out but what is clear is season four will be its final season. Although some insiders have listed on their Web sites that season four will begin in January, Sci Fi officials have stated it will air sometime in April of 2008.
This news may be disappointing for fans of the series especially since many have been anticipating season four to begin in January. March will mark one year since season three ended and fans are looking for any news they can find to answer their questions and fill the gaps.
Well, there is good news. The season four prequel movie Battlestar Galactica: Razor (written by Michael Taylor) will air 9 p.m. est. Saturday, Nov. 24 making the year-long wait not seem as bad. The two-hour movie focuses on the Battlestar Pegasus, its crew and Admiral Helena Cain (Michelle Forbes) and will fill in some of the gaps fans have been waiting for since the events of seasons two and three. BG Razor also introduces a new character, Lt. Kendra Shaw (Stephanie Chavez-Jacobsen.) Shaw’s character is pivotal during the transition in the Razor story arc and connects the missing pieces of the Pegasus storyline, the death of its commander, Admiral Cain and her newly appointed replacement, Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber.) Capt. Kara “Starbuck” Thrace (Katee Sackhoff) plays a major role and much about her “destiny” is revealed. The revelation of Starbucks "destiny" will be shocking and most certainly a major subplot in season four.
After weeks of watching “minisodes” of a young William Adama (Nico Cortez) and his encounter with one of the original Cylons, BG Razor will make sense of it.
Fans of the 1970’s ABC series can rejoice as well. Writer Michael Taylor focuses the BG Razor story around the original Cylons bringing fans of both series’ together for the first time. Unlike season one of the series where the mechanical Cylons aren’t seen much, in BG Razor they are shown often. Fans will immediately notice one thing in common between the original Cylons and the current version - both are CGI. Still, seeing the original Cylons and their ships is sure to give fans the feeling of nostalgia.
Season three ended leaving fans with a lot of questions and Battlestar Galactica Razor answers many of those questions while setting up events leading into season four. And although there isn’t much to report about season four, Battlestar Galactica Razor is a much needed band-aid for series fans until season four begins.
